Students Visit FIU Wall of Wind for Hurricane STEM Learning
Special thanks to Mr. Erik, Associate Director for Education and Outreach at the International Hurricane Research Center and Extreme Events Institute, for a powerful introduction to hurricane science. Students then toured the Wall of Wind facility and learned how researchers test structures and materials under extreme conditions.
What Students Experienced
- Hurricane science lecture: Students learned key concepts such as wind force, storm intensity, and community resilience.
- Facility tour: Students observed how advanced testing supports safer buildings and stronger infrastructure.
- Career exposure: Students explored pathways in STEM fields, research, engineering, and public safety.
