Diamond Minds China Trip: Learning, Innovation, and Friendship

From October 19–25, Diamond Minds students and staff traveled through Nanjing and Changzhou, experiencing China’s rich blend of culture, education, innovation, and warm human connection.

From Pandas to Pathways: Inspiration through Nature and Innovation

In Nanjing, visits to the Confucius Temple area and the Imperial Examination Museum helped students understand China’s deep respect for learning. At Hongshan Forest Zoo, seeing the giant pandas—a lifelong dream for many—brought pure joy and wonder. University visits to Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications and Changzhou University inspired students with strong programs and welcoming campus life, with several imagining future study in China. A tour of Li Auto’s EV manufacturing base in Changzhou opened students’ eyes to China’s leadership in technology and innovation.

Human Connection in Everyday Moments

Some of the most meaningful memories came from simple cultural experiences—morning walks through local parks, practicing tai chi, and joining local residents in daily exercises. These moments reminded students that cultural exchange isn’t only found in big events, but also in shared routines, smiles, and everyday kindness.

And throughout the journey, China’s incredible cuisine became a joyful part of daily life—shared around tables filled with laughter, conversation, and community.

The Most Unforgettable Moment: The Luban Bridge Experience

The most powerful highlight of the trip was participating in the construction of a supportless Luban Bridge at Changzhou Beijiao Senior High School. As students carefully assembled each wooden beam, ancient Chinese engineering principles came alive before their eyes—revealing China’s historic technological leadership long before the modern era.

Working side by side with Chinese students, our learners didn’t just explore scientific concepts—they built a symbolic bridge of friendship and mutual understanding, strengthening connections that will last far beyond the trip.

A Journey That Changed Perspectives

By the end of the week, our students returned with a deeper appreciation of China’s culture, its innovation, and—most importantly—the kindness of its people. This experience expanded horizons, sparked new academic dreams, and reinforced Diamond Minds’ commitment to global learning that shapes confident, compassionate, future-ready leaders.
